about

‘Cup Of Urafain’ came to fruition in 2020, when a forced period of isolation and abundance of spare time brought together two kindred spirits from across the pond. Feeling inspired, Calum shared his ideas with the Arizona-native, resulting in a cinematic rock piece about the political turbulence and global divisiveness—a theme that still rings true in the current climate.

Calum concocted the Urafain to represent the poison that society is fed by politicians and world leaders. Providing more context to the meaning he asks “Will you drink the Urafain (society’s poisonous element) and fade to money, greed and turmoil or will you do the right thing and stand for peace, unity, love and respect?”

Micahel comes from a strong lineage of the Arizona musicians. His father was a prominent artist in the Tucson area, performing across the country, whilst his aunt was the GRAMMY award winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Linda Ronstadt, an influential and revered figure in America’s Country, Blues and Rock world.

The like-minded duo first met at a show in Tucson and instantly bonded over their shared passion for rocking out on a cello. Both classically trained on the instrument, Calum also has a background in Jazz and it’s their combined styles and influences that merge to create something magical.

On collaborating with Calum, Michael expresses “Calum and I really connected in 2020 and truly created some magical songs together. We are somewhat unique and I am so honoured to have a friend with whom I’ve co-written, co-recorded, and co-produced all while creating from such a similar musical place”
